way the computer world operates.
Stevens is being honored with this award for contributions
to the understanding of TCP/IP, UNIX and network programming,
extradordinarily lucid teaching, and his generous spirit
within the community.
Many books have been written about both TCP/IP and UNIX,
but what makes Steven's books outstanding was his approach
to writing.
His three volume work, TCP/IP Illustrated, was so complete
and true to reality that it is used as a reference by members
of the Internet Engineering Task Force, the group charged
with creating and maintaining the standards for the Internet.

cyber and direct marketing solutions.
Each year, over 16,000 entries are judged, in Cannes, by
panels of internationally renowned creatives, each headed
by a jury president.
The juries use a specially designed electronic voting system
to select short lists, prior to announcing the winners at
ceremonies attended by thousands of delegates.
All short listed entries receive a certificate and winners
receive bronze, silver, or gold Lions.
The Grand Prix is given to the best Gold Lion winner in
each section.
Entries for Cannes Lions 2003 will open in January 2003.

The Awards are open to advertising, video production, multimedia

less than $15 million.
Each year advertising agencies and creative companies around
the world earn $450 million creating video, sound, and print
campaigns for everything from a Superbowl commercial to
a bench at the local bus stop.
The Summit Creative Awards is the only competition of its
kind.
The Awards conducts their own media campaign and provides

and importance -- TV and cinema advertising, and TV programming
and promotion.
Competitions for international radio advertising, programming
and promotion were launched in 1982; and for print advertising,

qualify for shows by meeting the barest entry criteria and
in some cases none at all.
And while I agree that this is not fair when you compare
it to legitimate work that has had to navigate through the
system, I do believe there is no indication this behavior
will stop.
Often creatives in frustrating environments just need an
outlet to be discovered.
And when you think of it, experimentation with bold ideas
and raw techniques is often times how any industry discovers
new frontiers.
So this year I'm introducing a new category, called Lavoie's
Playground*.
I believe winning a London International Advertising award
should serve a much larger purpose than a trip to London
(Although any reason to get to London, I guess, is a good
